With a great success in the world cup though they have lost the finals Sangakkara have announced the end of reign as the captain of Sri Lanka. On Tuesday he stepped down as captain of Sri Lanka’s ODI and T-20 teams and said that a new man can take the command and prepare the squad for the World Cup – 2015.
He is ready take the command and to continue as the skipper in the test cricket for the upcoming series against England and Australia if the selectors think that this will help them to find the new captain and would aid the transition.
Sangakkara has lead the team from the front ever since he has been given the responsibility of a skipper in both the forms of the game. Taking the stats into consideration he was the highest run getter in the world cup with 465 runs with an average 93. He has been named as The Captain of ICC’s 2011 world cup XI. He has been so more consistent ever since he has became the skipper of Sri Lankan side.
Under him SL won 5, lost 3 and drew 6 tests, won 27 and lost 14 ODI’s and won 12 & lost 9 T-20 games. Though it was not the right time for him step down as the skipper of team but he did as he lost the WC finals, maybe he has predecided this as any totka for the win. Though he is not the one in this list, he is the fourth to do so, after Australia’s Ricky Ponting, South Africa’s Greame Smith and NewZealand’s Daniel Vittori.
